Official Opening of the Castleisland
Area Office & Services Centre
Kerry’s newest public library at Castleisland was officially opened on Friday, 16th April by Cllr. Bobby O’Connell, Mayor of Kerry. Built as part of a Kerry County Council Area Services Centre for the Castleisland area, the Library has seen a 6 fold increase in library usage figures since it first opened to the public in August 2008.
The library holds over 20,000 items, has a staff of 3 and has 7 free public internet access points.
Speaking at the opening, Kerry County Manager, Tom Curran acknowledged the role of An Chomhairle Leabharlanna in the development and funding of the library and noted the active co-operation of Kerry Library in national initiatives such as Readiscover and the FÁS e-learning project.
Ms. Norma McDermott, Director of An Chomhairle Leabharlanna was in attendance.
